Knowing Budapest
Budapest was founded in 1873 after the unification of three separate towns, Buda and Obuda, on the west bank of the Danube and Pest. The city dates mostly from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and is a product of nationalist enthusiasm of the time. The three cities were developed in the second half of the twelfth century, and Buda was the seat of the kings of Hungary since 1247. Ottoman rule from 1541 to 1686, when the city was conquered by the Habsburgs, left few traces, apart from the magnificent bathhouses of the city.
The main means of transport to move to this beautiful city is the tram. It’s more comfortable for tourists, especially lines 18, 19 and 61 on the Buda side, and 2, 4 and 6 in Pest.
In addition there are 200 bus routes and three metro and HEV trains, linking the center with the surroundings. With a chip card can be paid on all transportation. The main sights for visitors arriving throughout the year are Busdapest Spa Gellert Hill, the Basilica of San Esteban, Vajdahunyad Castle, Matthias Church, the Museum of Fine Arts, National Opera, the Palace Real, Parliament and the parish church of the inner city.
This city has the advantage over others in Europe which is much cheaper for visitors arriving from the rest of the world, and you can spend many days without spending too much money.
