Common Travel Scams
There are situations involving tourists that are repeatable, regardless of language, customs, or traditions of the territory under our feet. Are arguably universal forms of fraud. With a minimum of trickery, we can anticipate and avoid them. Among them:
- Taxis: taxi drivers (usually unofficial or unregistered) in the service of the scam, are a common ailment especially in larger cities. Authorised to take them places, is one of the best ways to anticipate trouble. There are also situations that may be strange: taxi drivers who want us to change the destination (a restaurant) or travel because they argue a mishap (such as the restaurant is closed, or the more predictable path is blocked). The best thing is to find routes and potential costs before you travel within cities do not know.
- Travel Agencies: to hire a tour, or guide service, you should never do on the street. Always go to authorised agencies that have a local. Otherwise, we could end up paying for services not contracted for, overtime or commissions are not scheduled. On how to detect fraud, it is interesting to read about how it works psychologically a scammed.
- Resale street: the rule of thumb is to never agree to buy on a product road we do not know the price. If you ask two or three times in a travel destination for this product, we will have a reference price to avoid being scammed and paying an excessive cost.
- Merchants ransom. In my case, I had the experience of entering a totally tourist trade in a city in Italy, and meet a seller unkind, it says not enough time to meet us, or pressured to buy something you’re not sure. The best thing is to give you, turn around and even then, if we ironically comes out to be kind.
Travel scams, no nationality or an exclusive modality of a country. There are even websites where scams are outlined in more usual travel times. Just read about common scams on holiday for another picture.
If we add the misadventures of a delay in a flight, or worse, a cancelled flight, there are few variables that can alter the holiday. Although we must not fall into the paranoia. After all, in any country we can pass some of the situations named. Even in our own. It is best to leave, and always go with your eyes open.
